Just How Big Of An Upset Would A Leicester City Title Be?

One of the many things we love about sports is it's ability to surprise and shock us. We've been treated to some truly phenomenal upsets of course, from the likes of Japan beating South Africa in the 2015 Rugby World Cup to Greece winning the European Championship in 2004. But how does Leicester's potential title compare?

Well, firstly, Leicester have kept up this upset for an entire season, not just one game or a brief tournament. Leicester have strung together an almost full season of shocking and surprising fans with the way they've played this year. You only need to look at our prediction at the beginning of the year, where we thought we would see them relegated following the departure of Nigel Pearson, to see how much of a shock this season has been.

Players like Kanté, Vardy and PFA Player of the Year Mahrez have led Leicester to the position of being just one win away from the title, and they could secure it against Manchester United on Sunday with a win, the team they conquered in dramatic style last year thanks to a Jamie Vardy hat-trick. This would have been an incredible achievement for a more established Premier League side such as Everton, Stoke or Sunderland, but the reason why Leicester were 5,000-1 outsiders at the beginning of the season is because there is somewhat of a comeback story invovled too, for the club, the players, and the manager.

Starting with the club, just last year they sat comfortably at the bottom of the table, struggling for any points until a late surge in the league helped them narrowly avoid the drop. This has been very well documented on social media all season, as has the rise of many of Leicester's now star players. All three players mentioned previously have had meteoric rises through the ranks to now sit atop of the Premier League. Something that has been less talked about is the comeback of the manager, Claudio Ranieri.

Sacked by Roman Abramovich in 2004 as te Russian believed that Claudio would never win the league, when he returned to the Premier League his appointment was met with some shock and panned by many fans and critics, Leicester City legend Gary Lineker even tweeted: "Claudio Ranieri, really?" The managers has proved all doubters wrong and has masterminded Leicester to a truly memorable season that will live long in the memory. He got the best of every player, and showed that money can't buy you everything.

Where do Leicester go from here? Well, having qualified for the Champions League for the first time in the clubs history, Leicester wil certainly ned to bolster their squad whilst looking to retain their players and keep the tight-knit group they have there. Too many big money moves may have Leicester losing the magic that got them in this position, so they need to be very careful when making this next step. However, I think I speak for everyone when I say that we wish the very best for Leicester in their future, and that they wrap this title up as soon as possible, and that they can all have a party for the next few games.
